Wyatt Waters

Wyatt Waters is a nationally recognized Mississippi watercolorist whose luminous plein air paintings capture the character, beauty, and everyday life of the South. A native Mississippian, Waters paints exclusively on location, working directly from life to record not only what a place looks like, but how it feels.

Over the course of his career, Waters has built an acclaimed body of work centered on Mississippi and the broader Southern landscape. He is the author of six books, including Another Coat of Paint, Painting Home, An Oxford Sketchbook, and The Watercolor Road: Painting and Writing Through the American South. His collaborations with chef and author Robert St. John have produced four additional books combining watercolor, storytelling, travel, and Southern food, as well as the PBS series Palate to Palette.

In 2026, Waters released The Watercolor Road | Natchez, a collection of 75 paintings created on location throughout Natchez, accompanied by writings from 21 voices connected to the city. Together, the paintings and essays explore Natchez through its architecture, river, traditions, history, complexity, and enduring cultural legacy.

Waters is also a sought-after instructor who leads watercolor workshops and painting retreats in Mississippi and abroad. In 2025, he was named to the Magnolia Tribune Mississippi Top 100, recognizing leaders whose work has made a meaningful impact on the state.

Wyatt and his wife, Kristi, operate Wyatt Waters Gallery locations in Clinton and Natchez, Mississippi, and divide their time between Mississippi and their travels.
