Rita Brent is an award-winning comedian, musician, and military veteran. She grew up in Jackson, MS where she credits her mother for single-handedly cultivating her talents and preparing her for the entertainment business. After working 11 years in public radio and serving 9 years in the Army National Guard, she made a big leap into standup comedy in 2013.
Since then she has appeared as a standup comedian on Comedy Central, truTV, Epix TV, LOL Network, Circle TV, CNN, and more. She tours as an opening act with her mentors, Rickey Smiley and Cedric the Entertainer.
Rita is now building her comedy writing résumé. She wrote for the 73rd Primetime EMMY Awards, Stand Out: An LGBTQ Celebration on Netflix, and most recently- The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. In 2023, she became a first-time Writers Guild Awards Nominee in two categories.
When she's not on the road as a standup comedian, she's an up and coming music performance artist. She recently released the hilarious hit song, "Do the Hoochie Daddy". She's also an HBCU graduate of Jackson State University and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Rita believes art is the most natural form of healing of which she is a proud practitioner.
