Diane was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her mother’s family were among the earliest French settlers. She lives there now. Her M.F.A. and Ph.D. are from Columbia University. Her dissertation was written under the direction of Edward Said. She was a Breadloaf Scholar and nominated by Gotham Book Mart to The Pushcart Prize, where she is listed in an early edition under “Outstanding Writers: Poets.” She has taught at Sarah Lawrence College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Her poems and articles are published in Raritan, The Yale Review, The Mississippi Review, The Nation, Boulevard, Pataphysics. Her book The Beauty Shop Monologues: Ocean Springs, Mississippi, 1964 (Four Zoas Press) is out of print.
