Carrie Helms Tippen

Carrie is Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Humanities and Education Department at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tippen is author of Inventing Authenticity: How Cookbook Writers Redefine Southern Identity (University of Arkansas Press, 2018) and Unpalatable: Stories of Pain and Pleasure in Southern Cookbooks (University Press of Mississippi, 2025). She is editor of the Ingrid G. Houck Series on Food and Foodways at University Press of Mississippi. Her academic work has been published in Gastronomica, Food and Foodways, Southern Quarterly, and Food, Culture, and Society.
