Katie Blount

Katie Blount served as director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History from February 2015 until her retirement in June 2026. She began her career at MDAH in 1994 in the public information section and later served as deputy director for communication.

Blount helped oversee the team that planned the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and was serving as director when the museums opened in 2017 as part of the state’s bicentennial celebration. Together, they are known as the Two Mississippi Museums and marked one of the most significant projects in the department’s history.

Blount earned her B.A. in English and history from the University of Michigan and her M.A. in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi. She lives in Jackson with her husband, and they have two adult children.
