Catherine Simone Gray

Catherine is a writer and teacher who has made her home in Mississippi since puberty. She is the author of "Proud Flesh: A Memoir of Motherhood, Intimate Violence, and Reclaiming Pleasure," published by North Atlantic Books in 2025. Featured by Roxane Gay as an Emerging Writer in The Audacity, Catherine's work has also appeared in The Bitter Southerner and the Michigan Quarterly Review: Mixtape. She began writing about her intimate experiences of new motherhood in a Google Doc on her phone while nursing her first baby, and these writings inspired her blog Unsilenced Woman, which reached 2.5 million readers around the world. She is the recipient of a Literary Arts Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission and has delivered three addresses at the Mississippi Womanist Rally. With an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi, she has fifteen years of experience as a writing teacher and leads workshops exploring how writing can be an ally in our living and loving.
