Victoria Bynum
Victoria is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History at Texas State University, San Marcos. An award-winning author and NEH Fellow, she is the author of The Free State of Jones, which inspired the 2016 movie of the same name. Her latest work, Deep Roots, Broken Branches, is a five-generation history and memoir of her own family. Since 2009, Victoria has hosted Renegade South, a blog featuring her research on Southern Civil War Unionists, mixed-race families, and the evolving history of racial identity.
