My name is Mancy Thompson and I am writing to provide a brief auto biographical to be used for the September Book signing. On February 7th of 2011, I was finally released from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after serving 23.5 years for the crime of First-degree murder with the use of a firearm. The terms and length of Parole Supervision at both the time of sentencing and release was for life according to California law. This was the result of my 5th parole consideration hearing, all of which I attended and had been denied up to this point. Immediately upon my release I enrolled into a job educational training program to assist me with prosocial re-integration skills and employment, through the very successful Job Readiness Training Program, Second Chance in San Diego. This program was offered through and in conjunction with the internationally known organization, head quartered in East Harlem, New York. Strive Internation. Upon completion and graduation from the JRT/Work Force Development training program I was offered an opportunity to apply for a position here with the, San Diego Strive affiliate Second Chance as a Client Services Specialist (CSS), which I did. As both a graduate and veteran of the United States Marine Corps with 2 periods of active honorable service I was asked to return to school to begin furthering my education through the American Bar Association to become a Veterans Advocate. In 2012, I successfully completed my education through the American Bar Association, and was awarded my credential and certification as a Veteran's advocate with both the Veteran's Administration and the American Bar.
